I finally got round to adding another Rodriguez song on here from my songbook.
There are still more to come - so stay tuned...
You'll probably find better quality vids out there of Crucify Your Mind - but this one is good because you get to see him playing.
If you want to see all Rodriguez songs I have (and more in the future, as time permits) click on Sixto Rodriguez label at the bottom of the post - just above the comments.
"...Climb up on my music and my songs will set you free..." - Rodriguez
Crucify Your Mind by Rodriguez
Intro: A, E, F#m, E, A (twice)
if you watch the video, you'll see how to play it like Rodriguez
A
Was it a huntsman or a player
Amaj7
That made you pay the cost
F#m
That now assumes relaxed positions
E A
And prostitutes your loss?
A
Were you tortured by your own thirst?
Amaj7
In those pleasures that you seek
F#m
That made you Tom the curious
E A
That makes you James the weak?
A, Amaj7, E, F#m, E, A
E A
But you claim you got something going
E A
Something you call unique
D A
But I've seen your self-pity showing
E A
As the tears rolled down your cheeks.
A, Amaj7, E, F#m, E, A
A
Soon you know I'll leave ya
Amaj7
And I'll never look behind
F#m
'Cos I was born for the purpose
E A
That crucifies your mind.
A
So con, convince your mirror.
Amaj7
As you've always done before
F#m
Giving substance to shadows
E A
Giving substance ever more.
A, Amaj7, E, F#m, E, A
E A
And you assume you got something to offer
E A
Secrets shiny and new
D A
But how much of you is repetition
E A
That you did not whisper to him too Amaj7, F#m, E, A
There you have it - enjoy...
Of course it's always good to view other players and see how their cover versions compare.
This one below - by Martinwaymusic is worth a look at.
His version uses a Capo on the second and is in the chord of G

And a few more for comparison...
The chord following the A is A/Ab, not E. Soon you know I'll (A/Ab) leave ya
ReplyDeleteCheers, thanks for that - appreciate it
DeleteWell its actually Amaj7
DeleteIt's actually Amaj7. Do you know the exact tab?
DeleteExact tab? I wish, but will suss it out some more and paste it here when I do.
DeleteYou've got the chords right, but to me you seem to have mixed up the order a bit in the intro and the verse. I play it like this:
ReplyDeleteIntro: A, Amaj7, F#m, E, A
------------A--------------------------------
Was it a huntsman or a player
-------Amaj7---------------------------------
That made you pay the cost
--------------F#m----------------------------
That now assumes relaxed positions
-------E---------------------A----------------
And prostitutes your loss?
...and so on.
Hi Ingrid - thanks for that. I've rechecked everything so hope the chords are now in the right places. Are you on YouTube? I'd love to hear your version.
DeleteAnd Amaj7 is 002120 :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for this tab
