Originally sung by the Bee Gee’s – I quite enjoy this version of “To Love Somebody” by Ray Lamontagne & Damien Rice and I reckon every songbook4guitar should have this one in it.

San Francisco Bay Blues - Eric Clapton - chords lyrics

This week I put in my Eric Clapton cd and was drawn to strumming along to THIS song on my guitar with the original track playing. Just a pity I didn’t have a duck-caller…

Checking out some clips on You Tube of San Francisco Bay Blues, I was surprised to see so many different artists singing it in so many differering styles.

But, here is the song – chords and lyrics - from Eric Clapton’s “Unplugged” album 1992.

Chords: C-F-C7-A-D-G7-E7

I got the [C]blues from my baby down
[F]by the San Francisco [C]Bay[C7]
Where the [F]ocean liners, they aren't so far a[C]way[C7]
[F]I didn't mean to treat her [C]so bad
she was the [A]best girl I ever have had
[D]Said goodbye, had to take a cry
[G7]I wanna lay down and die
I [C]ain't got a nickel and I [F]ain't got a lousy dime.[C] [C7]
If she [F]don't come back, I think I'm gonna lose my [E7]mind.
 [F]If I ever get back to [C]stay
it's [A]gonna be another brand new day,
[D]Walkin' with my baby down
[G7]by the San Francisco [C]Bay[G7]

Sittin' down lookin' from my back door
wondrin' which way to go
The woman I'm so crazy about, she don't love me no more
Think I'll catch me a freight train, 'cause I'm feelin' blue
I'll ride all the way to the end of the line, thinkin' only of you
Meanwhile, livin' in the city, thinkin' I'll go insane
Thought I heard my baby's voice
the way she used to call my name
If I ever get back to stay, it's gonna be another brand new day
Walkin' with my baby down by the San Francisco Bay, hey hey
Walkin' with my baby down by the San Francisco Bay
Yeah, walkin' with my baby down by the San Francisco Bay

Ends on a C7
for the ending, just repeat D, G7, C, and A7 until the final
flourish of C F C
